Al-Thawrah, often spelled Al-Tabqah, is a Syrian city located in the Raqqa Governorate, about 55 km (34 mi) west of Raqqa. Al-Thawrah, which alludes to the Baathist March 8th revolution in 1963, is named after what it literally means: "The Revolution." Al-Thawrah is close to the Tabqa Dam and Lake Assad on the Euphrates, an important energy source for Syria. As of the 2004 census, there were 69,425 people living in the city. It is a part of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria's Tabqa Region.
