Inland city Pocheon in South Korea's Gyeonggi province's far northeast (Korean pronunciation: [pho.tshn]). According to the 2008 census, it has a population of 160,176 and an area of 826.48 km (513.55 mi). Between Seoul and the rocky regions of Gangwon province's northwest is Pocheon. Along with Dongducheon and Yangju to the west, Uijeongbu and Namyangju of Gyeonggi province to the south, the city borders Yeoncheon County. Its eastern boundary also touches Gangwon province's Hwacheon county, while its northern border is with Cheorwon. The highest mountainous terrain in the province of Gyeonggi is found at Pocheon, along with the neighbouring Gapyeong. Pocheon-hyeon and Yeongpyeong counties were combined to form the current city of Pocheon. The city's south used to be a part of Pocheon-hyeon, while the north used to be a part of Yeongpyeong county.
