After the birth of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Nabadwip rose to prominence as a significant Vaishnava and Hindu pilgrimage destination. Many adherents of Gaudiya Vaishnavism travel to Nabadwip to commemorate Shri Mahaprabhu's auspicious birthday, which falls on Phalguni Purnima according to lunatic estimates.
