Babruysk, Babrujsk or Bobruisk is a city in the Mogilev Region of eastern Belarus on the Berezina river. In Belarus, it is a sizable city. Its population was 209,675 as of 2022. The Belarusian term "babyor," of which the Berezina once had a large population, is likely the source of the name Babrujsk. By the end of the 19th century, however, hunting and pollution had nearly completely wiped out the beaver population in the region.
