It is the largest city in the Albuquerque metropolitan area, which has 916,528 people living there as of July 2020. Additionally, it is a component of the Albuquerque-Santa Fe-Las Vegas combined statistical area, which had 1,162,523 people living there as of January 2020. The city is situated in the Albuquerque Basin and is bordered to the east and west by the West Mesa and the Rio Grande, with a bosque running from north to south. The city serves as a centre for businesses in the media and technology sectors, as well as for historical sites, the University of New Mexico, the Gathering of Nations, the New Mexico State Fair, and a variety of restaurants serving New Mexican food.
