Tlaltetela Coins

Tlaltetela is a municipality located in the montane central zone in the State of Veracruz, about 25 km from state capital Xalapa. Its surface area is 266.50 km2. The coordinates are 19°19′N 96°54′W. The word is derived from the Nahuatl words tlal- (land) and tetl (rocks). It was once known by the Nahuatl name Axocuapan, which means "in the acid water" (Atl-Xoxoc-Apan). Axocuapan was renamed Tlaltetela by decree 373 of May 8, 1979. The municipal library and the first recreational park both opened in 1998. Due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in the municipality, a curfew was imposed on July 12, 2020, marking the first official quarantine in Mexico.
