Located 150 kilometres northeast of Khartoum, Shendi or Shandi is a town in northern Sudan on the east bank of the Nile River. The historic city of Mero is also 45 kilometres southwest of Shandi. The village of Hosh Bannaga, where former President Omar al-Bashir's hometown is, is located on the outskirts of Shendi.
