Vinh Moedas

The largest city and the political, economic, and cultural hub of north-central Vietnam is Vinh. Vinh, the capital of Ngh An Province, is an important hub on the East-West commercial corridor that connects Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, and Laos. The city is conveniently reachable by road, train, boat, and air and is located in the southeast of the province, next to the Lam River, on the country's primary north-south transportation corridor. Four airlines, including Jetstar Pacific, VietJet Air, Bamboo Airways, and Vietnam Airlines, operate daily flights to and from the recently expanded Vinh International Airport. It was promoted from Grade-II city to Grade-I city on September 5, 2008, becoming the fifth Grade-I city in Vietnam after Haiphong, La Nng, and Hu. With nearly 490,000 inhabitants, Vinh is the city with the highest population in the North Central Coastal region. The city is bounded to the north and east by the district of Nghi Loc, to the west by the district of Hung Nguyen, and to the south by the district of Nghi Xuan in the province of Hà Tnh. Vinh is about 1,400 kilometres (870 miles) north of Ho Chi Minh City and about 300 kilometres (190 miles) south of Hanoi. Vinh city has a total size of 104.97 square kilometres (40.53 square miles), which is divided into 16 urban wards and 9 suburban communes.
