The prefectural government's seat is in Takamatsu, a city in the centre of Kagawa Prefecture on the island of Shikoku in Japan. It is listed by the Japanese government as a core city. It is the port city nearest to Honshu from Shikoku island in the Seto Inland Sea. It prospered as a castle town in the Takamatsu domain under the daimy because of this during the Edo period. The tallest structure in Takamatsu is The Symbol Tower, which is situated next to The JR Clement Hotel, another large structure that is a component of the Sunport complex.
