A city in the Indian state of West Bengal is called Jalpaiguri. It serves as the administrative centre for both the West Bengal division of Jalpaiguri and the five districts of North Bengal's Jalpaiguri district. The city is situated in the foothills of the Himalayas along the Teesta River, which is the second-largest river in West Bengal after the Ganges. The circuit bench of the Kolkata High Court has its headquarters in the city, with its other location being Port Blair in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College, the University of North Bengal's second campus, and the Biswa Bangla Krirangan/Jalpaiguri Sports Village are all located in Jalpaiguri. It is located 35 kilometres (22 mi) east of Siliguri, its twin city. The two cities were combined to become the greatest city in the area.
