The second-largest city in terms of population in the province of Hubei in northwest China is Xiangyang. Xiangfan was the name used from 1950 till 2010. The Han River splits Xiangyang into north and south and flows through the city's centre. Fancheng and Xiangyang, two once separate cities, have combined to form the city, which was formerly known as Xiangfan. Old Xiangyang's ruins are south of the Han River and comprise one of China's oldest still-standing city walls, whereas Fancheng lies north of the Han River. Both cities served prominent historical roles in both ancient and pre-modern Chinese history. In the built-up area, which is made up of 3 urban districts, there were 2,319,640 people as of the 2020 census, whereas there were roughly 5,260,951 people in the entire municipality.
