In China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the city and regional hub of Wuhai is the smallest prefecture-level division in terms of land. In between the Gobi and Ordos deserts, it is situated along the Yellow River. With the 1976 merger of Haibowan on the right (east) bank and left-bank (west) Uda, Wuhai became a single metropolis occupying both banks of the Yellow River. Wuhai is one of very few cities with an antipode which is not only on land, but which is another inhabited city; the antipode of Wuhai is almost exactly on the city of Valdivia, Chile. Huang Jianxiang, a football analyst and television host, was born here.
