In the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Vellore serves as both the city and the district's administrative centre. It is situated on the banks of the Palar River in Tamil Nadu's northeast and is divided into four zones and 60 wards. According to the 2001 census, it has an area of 87.915 km2 and a population of 423,425 people living there. It is situated approximately 213.20 kilometres (132 miles) east of Bangalore and 137.20 kilometres (85 miles) west of Chennai. On the Golden Quadrilateral's Mumbai–Chennai stretch, Vellore is situated. The Vellore Municipal Corporation and the mayor are in charge of running the city. It is a part of Vellore's state assembly and Lok Sabha constituency.
