Trento, also anglicized as Trent, is a city on the Adige River in Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol in Italy. Trento's autonomous province has it as its capital. The Council of Trent met in this city in the sixteenth century. It was once a part of Austria and Austria-Hungary until being incorporated into Italy in 1919. Trento is the second-largest city in the Tyrol and the third-largest city in the Alps with a population of 120,709.
