The American state of Texas contains the city of Texas City in Galveston County. Located on the southwest shoreline of Galveston Bay, Texas City is a busy deepwater port on Texas's Gulf Coast, as well as a petroleum-refining and petrochemical-manufacturing center. After League City and Galveston, the city had a population of 51,898 as of the 2020 Census, making it Galveston County's third-largest city. It belongs to the Houston metro region. The city is famous for being the scene of a significant explosion in 1947 that destroyed much of the city and the port.
