At the base of the Magaliesberg mountain range is the city of Rustenburg. The most populous city in South Africa's North West province is Rustenburg. The city's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for 2017 was ZAR 63.8 billion, or 21.1 percent of the North West Province's GDP and 1.28 percent of South Africa's overall GDP. Rustenburg was one of the official host cities of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, being in close proximity to Phokeng, the capital of the Royal Bafokeng Nation, where the Royal Bafokeng Stadium is located. This served as the tournament home base for the England national football team.
