The Philippines' Quezon province, formally known as the Province of Quezon, is situated in the Calabarzon region on the island of Luzon. The province was first known by the name Kalilayan. Later, it adopted the name Tayabas. The name of the province was then changed to Quezon in honour of Manuel L. Quezon, the former governor of the province who went on to become the second and first freely elected president of the Philippines. As the most populous city in the province and the capital of the province, Lucena is managed separately from the province due to its high level of urbanisation. It is occasionally referred to as Quezon Province to separate it from Quezon City.
