In the Indian state of West Bengal, the heritage city of Nabadwip (also known as Nadia or Nudiya) is located in the Nadia district. Hindus consider it to be a sacred location, and the sage Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was born there. Nabadwip town is well-known for the Rass festival, during which the city is illuminated with lights and god and goddess idols are erected on every corner. For raas utsab, hundreds of people congregate in this small village. It is believed to have been built in 1063 CE, and it served as the previous capital of the Sena dynasty. It is situated on the western bank of the Hooghly River. The city, which was a hub of scholarship and philosophy in mediaeval India, is still renowned for its classic Sanskrit institutions. With the help of certain well-known modern philosophers from Nabadwip, the Navya Nyaya school of reasoning attained its pinnacle. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1486–1534), a revered Vaishnava saint, social reformer, and key figure in the Bhakti movement, was born here. After the birth of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Nabadwip rose to prominence as a significant Vaishnava and Hindu pilgrimage destination. Many adherents of Gaudiya Vaishnavism travel to Nabadwip to commemorate Shri Mahaprabhu's auspicious birthday, which falls on Phalguni Purnima according to lunatic estimates.
