In Japan's Tokyo Metropolis' western region sits the city of Komae. It is one of the 30 municipalities in the Tama Area, a western district of Tokyo. The city had an estimated 83,218 residents as of April 1, 2021, giving it a population density of 13,000 people per km2. Musashino was ranked as the fifth most attractive place to live in Central Japan in the 2015 Kanto Ranking. The city has a total area of 6.39 square kilometres (2.47 square miles). In terms of land and population, it is the second-smallest administrative city in the country. It is also the smallest administrative city in the Tokyo Meotropolis.
