The city of Khammam, commonly referred to as Khammamett, is located in the Telangana state of India's Khammam district. It is the state's fourth-largest city. It serves as both the district and mandal headquarters for Khammam. It is located about 193 kilometres (120 mi) east of the state capital, Hyderabad, 61 kilometres (38 mi) from Suryapet, 120 kilometres (75 mi) from Warangal and also it is located about 121 kilometres (75 mi) North of the Andhra Pradesh state capital, Amaravathi. On the city's western edge, the river Munneru flows. There are 313,504 people living in the Khammam urban area as of the 2011 India census. However, the civic authority of Khammam was promoted to Municipal corporation on October 19, 2012. Khammam's population after corporate status is estimated to be 3,07,000.
