Isla Mujeres, which translates to "Women Island" in Spanish, is an island where the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico converge. It is located in the Mexican State of Quintana Roo, about 13 kilometres off the coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. It is roughly 650 metres wide and 7 kilometres long. To the east is the Caribbean Sea with a strong surf and rocky coast, and to the west the skyline of Cancún can be seen across the waters. 12,642 people called the island's namesake town home as of the 2010 Census. Isla Mujeres Municipality is headquartered at the town.
