After (East) Berlin, Leipzig, Dresden, and Chemnitz, Halle (Saale), or just Halle, is the largest city in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. It is also the 31st largest city in Germany, and with over 239,000 residents, it is slightly more populous than the state capital of Magdeburg. Halle is a part of the polycentric Leipzig-Halle conurbation, which also includes Leipzig, the largest city in Saxony. The Leipzig/Halle International Airport is located in Schkeuditz, halfway between the two cities. The broader Central German Metropolitan Region is centred on the Leipzig-Halle conurbation.
