The administrative centre of Fès-Meknès is located in the northern interior of Morocco in the city of Fès, sometimes known as Fes. According to the 2014 census, it has a population of 1.11 million, making it the second-largest city in Morocco. The old city is built around the west-to-east flowing Fez River and is bordered by hills.
