A town and comune in Campania, Southern Italy's Naples Metropolitan Area, is called Ercolano. It is located on the Bay of Naples, near the western foot of Mount Vesuvius, just southeast of Naples. The ancient city of Herculaneum, from which the modern name of Resina derives, was devastated by the eruption of Vesuvius, and the mediaeval town of Resina was constructed on the volcanic material left behind. A resort, Ercolano serves as the starting point for trips to the Herculaneum excavations and the bus ride up Mount Vesuvius. Additionally, the town produces glass, leather items, buttons, glassware, and the Lacryma Christi wine.
