Eldoret is the county seat of Uasin Gishu County and a major town in Kenya's Rift Valley. The nickname for the town is "Sisibo." Eldoret ranks behind Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, and Ruiru as the fifth most populous urban area in Kenya, according to the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census. The location, which is located south of the Cherangani Hills, has a local elevation range of roughly 2100 metres at the airport to more than 2700 metres (7000–9000 feet) in neighbouring areas. With a population of 475,716 as of the 2019 National Census, it is the fastest-growing town in Kenya. The population was 289,380 in the 2009 Census. Eldoret is on track to become the fourth city in Kenya.
