Dobrich is the administrative centre of the Dobrich Province, the seat of the Southern Dobrudzha region, and the ninth most populous city in Bulgaria. It is situated in the northeastern region of the nation, 30 km west of the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria, close to popular vacation spots like Albena, Balchik, and Golden Sands. In January 2012, Dobrich was inhabited by 79,269 people within the city limits. The name of the city comes from Dobrotitsa, a mediaeval Bulgarian lord of the area.
