Borujerd is one of the earliest contemporary cities in Iran, having been around at least since the ninth century. Borujerd was a strategic, industrial, and economic city in the Zagros Mountains that attracted attention during the Great Seljuq Empire in the ninth and tenth centuries. During the Qajar dynasty in the 18th and 19th centuries, Borujerd was chosen as the state capital of Lorestan and the Khuzestan province.
