About 80 kilometres (50 miles) north of Toronto, in Southern Ontario, Canada, is the city of Barrie. The city is within Simcoe County and located along the shores of Kempenfelt Bay, the western arm of Lake Simcoe. It is a single-tier municipality in Simcoe County's eastern region that enjoys political independence. The Greater Golden Horseshoe, a large urban area in southern Ontario, includes Barrie. According to the 2016 census, there were 141,434 people living in the city, and 197,059 people called the census metropolitan area that included the city home.
