Amiens is a city and commune in northern France that is situated 100 kilometres (62 miles) south of Lille and 120 kilometres (75 miles) north of Paris. It serves as the Somme department's administrative centre in the Hauts-de-France region. Amiens had a populace of 135,429 in 2021. Amiens Cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral in France, is a prominent feature of the city. With 1,200 beds, Amiens also boasts one of France's biggest academic hospitals. From 1871 until his passing in 1905, author Jules Verne resided in Amiens and served on the municipal council for 15 years. Emmanuel Macron, the current leader of France, was born in Amiens.
