Agua Prieta is a town located in the Sonora state of Mexico's northeastern Agua Prieta Municipality. It is situated close to the Arizonan town of Douglas on the border with Mexico. The municipality spans 3,631.65 km2 of land. The municipality had 79,138 residents as of the 2010 census, ranking it as the seventh-largest locality in the state, and a 96.3 percent literacy rate. In the city, 89 percent of households have electricity, 94 percent have running water, and 86 percent are sewer-connected. In descending order, the city's top three economic sectors are industry, business, and agriculture.
