A important city in Morocco, Agadir is located 509 kilometres (316 miles) south of Casablanca on the Atlantic coast, close to the foot of the Atlas Mountains, and just north of the point where the Souss River empties into the sea. The Souss-Massa economic region and the Agadir Ida-U-Tanan Prefecture both have Agadir as their capital. One of Morocco's two official languages, Berber, is spoken by the majority of the country's citizens.
